In July of 2018, The Rotary Club of Emory-Clifton (RCEC) partnered with The Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa, Palawan National High School Batch 74 and 78, Villa de Sierra Vista, Pinay Boutique, the Filipino-American community in Atlanta, and the local officials and teachers fund and distribute 750 book bags containing school supplies (notebooks, writing ruled pads, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, ruler, and glue) to children of indigenous people in remote areas in Southern and Northern part of Palawan, Philippines, specifically Sta. Fe, Talaudyong, Manaile, Buong, Apoc-Apoc, and Apis Elementary Schools. These school packets, averaging 25 per grade (K-5), per school were given to kindergarten to 5th grade elementary schools children from low-income and under privileged communities. School supplies and hygiene packs (cup, toothbrush, face towel, toothpaste) were provided to the children and mothers. Food were served and activities were prepared for both children and mothers.There were “big book” storytelling and demonstration of proper hand washing and tooth brushing techniques.While children were busy with their activities, mothers attended a workshop on how to care for their children, which covered immunization, proper nutrition and good hygiene practice.There were 120 individuals who assisted and gave financial or in-kind support to this effort. There were 60 teachers, school staff, and local officials who assisted in this project.
